Candle Care & Safety

Every ARDEN piece is an object of intention, entirely hand-cast and poured in our studio. To ensure the longevity of your stone vessel and the perfect, sensory experience of our wood wicks, we invite you to follow these mindful burning rituals.

1. The Initial Burn (Setting the Memory)

The first time you light your ARDEN candle, allow the wax to melt completely across the surface to the very edge of the stone vessel. This typically takes 2 to 3 hours. Soy wax holds a "memory"—if it is extinguished too early on the first burn, it will begin to tunnel straight down, wasting the wax on the outer edges.

2. Trimming the Wood Wick

Unlike standard cotton wicks, wood wicks require a different level of care. Before every single burn, gently pinch or trim the charred tip of the wood wick down to approximately 1/8".

  • Why this matters: If the wick is too long, it cannot draw the wax up properly, causing the flame to flicker, smoke, or quietly drown out. Always remove the burnt wood debris before lighting.

3. Protecting Your Stone Vessel

Our vessels are hand-cast from raw stone and sealed with a heat-resistant coating. However, stone is naturally porous and handles temperature changes organically.

  • Place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from drafts.

  • Do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a single time to prevent the vessel from becoming overly hot.

4. Knowing When to Transition to a Refill

To protect the integrity of the sealed base of your stone vessel, stop burning your candle when there is approximately 1/2" of wax remaining at the bottom.

  • At this point, your initial ritual ends and a new one begins. Let the wax cool completely, cleanly wipe out the interior rim with warm, soapy water, and seamlessly slide your next Wax Refill Insert directly inside.

5. Essential Safety Guidelines

  • Never leave a burning candle completely unattended.

  • Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.

  • Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire.

  • Ensure the wax pool remains entirely free of wick trimmings, matches, or debris.
